Marketing trip – Madrid and London

Directors from our FC businesses in the UK, Spain and Chile joined together to meet the insurance Markets during a five day trip to Madrid and London. Together, and along with our new business based in Nassau, we now offer our own high-quality adjusting and Claims services throughout Latin America, the Caribbean and of course Europe. The Market’s response to our overall proposition was extremely positive. As a result, we shall be adding further resources to our companies in all four territories.

FitzGerald Claims Consultants Caribbean Ltd, based in Nassau, is fully geared up to support the insurance market in the Bahamas following the devastation caused by this event.

We shall be dedicating senior management and CAT specialist adjusters, principally from the UK, who have worked on previous CAT events around the world, to offer clients the best possible service.

As part of this immediate mobilisation, our Operations Director for the project, Graeme Shurben, will be in Nassau this week (w/c 2 Sept) to meet insurers and discuss with them their requirements for this event. He will be joined in this by our local Managing Director, Jerome P Gomez.

Launch of new business in the Bahamas

We are delighted to confirm the launch of our latest subsidiary, FitzGerald Claims Consultants (Caribbean) Ltd (‘FCCCL’), which is based in the Bahamas.

The company is headquartered in Nassau and is designed to serve both the Bahamas and the wider Caribbean.

It joins our other subsidiaries, FitzGerald Consulting Latin America Ltd, based in Santiago, Chile, and FitzGerald Consulting Espana Ltd, based in Madrid, Spain.

The Bahamas business is a joint venture with our partner in that territory, Mr Jerome P Gomez.  Jerome is a previous Senator of the Government in the Bahamas who now owns a financial services company  called GCM (Global Corporate Management).  He will be the Managing Director of FCCCL.

Bev FitzGerald will be Chairman of the company and Graeme Shurben a Director, with special responsibility for the company from the UK.

The three directors of our UK company, FitzGerald Consulting Ltd, joined Jerome in a pre-launch marketing trip to the Bahamas earlier this year where, over the course of a week in May, we met the insurance Market there.  They were very welcoming and positive and we look forward to offering them a first-class service.

FitzGerald Consulting Espana

At the end of June, our new company in Spain celebrated a successful first 6 months in business, since opening at the beginning of this year.  We have been well-supported by the Market in Spain where our new approach to adjusting there is appreciated.  Directors in the UK met with our CEO based in Madrid, Javier Espeja, and also took the opportunity to join one of our key clients, RSA, as they celebrated 10 years since opening in Spain.

FitzGerald Consulting is the sole UK representative for our global network adjusting partners, Context International.  This organisation was founded by Gerard Bottcher, a great friend of our company, in Holland 10 years ago.  The directors of FC in the UK joined other representatives of Context from throughout Europe to celebrate this milestone at a beautiful venue outside Amsterdam.  The network goes from strength to strength and offers our clients high-quality adjusting services all over the world.

 

Retirement lunch for Gerald Williams

After a glittering career of more than 40 years in the loss adjusting profession, including the past 17 in our own company, Gerald recently decided to retire from active involvement in the business.

Surrounded by his closest friends from the Market, on Thursday 6 June the directors of our company hosted a lunch at Corrigan’s in Mayfair to mark this event and to celebrate this wonderful career.

A dual-qualified chartered accountant and chartered loss adjuster, Gerald specialised in Business Interruption claims where he built up a stellar reputation.  This started when he worked with major loss adjusting companies in the UK, but then extended globally after Gerald joined FitzGerald Consulting almost immediately it was founded in 2002 and began working on the largest BI claims world-wide.  These included several multi-billion losses arising from the 9/11 terrorist attack in New York, similar-sized cases from Catastrophe (CAT) events in Mexico, Chile and New Zealand, plus individual cases throughout the world.

Over and above this professional success, Gerald made a huge contribution to the development of our company and the directors and all his colleagues will miss his wise counsel.   Much more important though, we shall also miss his excellent company – and the fun and laughter he brought to everything.

FCL welcomes David Cameron

We are delighted to welcome a new Senior Consultant, David Cameron, to our business. David is a highly skilled and expert Claims practitioner, having worked for many years in the London and international insurance markets. In previous mainstream business life, he was most recently a managing director at Swiss Re. Within FitzGerald Consulting, David will be focusing primarily on our audit/review business, including actively working on new projects.

New business opening – Spain

My director colleagues and I are delighted to announce the launch of our latest new business – in Spain.

FitzGerald Consulting España S L has begun trading at the beginning of January 2019.

Based in Madrid, FC España will offer a full range of loss adjusting and Claims consulting services.

The business is managed by founder director, Javier Espeja, who will act as CEO. He is supported by another local co-founder and director, Angel Carretero. They have a strong network of adjusters throughout Spain.

Javier was previously a senior Claims Manager at a major international insurer’s office in Madrid where, over a period of years, he built up an excellent reputation in the market for the quality of his adjusting and claims handling, including the use of innovative approaches. Angel is also well-known in Spain as a first-class independent loss adjuster.

This new business will further be fully supported by FitzGerald Consulting in the UK.

Additionally, FC España will supplement our service in Latin America, where we also have a separate local business based in Chile, FC Latin America Ltd.

Conferences in the US

Also in September, we attended two conferences in the US – the Insurance QA Conference in Boston and the 5th Annual New York City Reinsurance Conference. Both of these featured very senior speakers from the global insurance Market and covered a range of topics highly relevant to our business. It was especially interesting to hear about leading-edge developments in data management; AI; and InsureTech. And, of course, it was helpful to meet and discuss these developments and how they impact the Claims business with senior players in the Market.

Presentation at the iNED workshop

At the end of September, Bev FitzGerald gave a presentation to over 90 attendees at a prestigious iNED workshop held by the Worshipful Company of Insurers in London. iNED is aimed at Non-Executive Directors and other senior personnel involved in the insurance industry. The workshop focused on managing Catastrophe incidents from a Board perspective.

Bev’s presentation highlighted lessons learned from our company’s experience gained in supporting insurers on numerous CAT incidents and, especially, the sequence of earthquakes in New Zealand. Additionally, he stressed in the great value of pre-incident scenario planning, where we have provided insurers with advice which can save many millions of $.
