6th Annual Claims Management Conference

Bev FitzGerald was invited to speak at the 6th Annual Claims Management Conference in Amsterdam which took place on 26/27 January this year. This event was attended by over 100 representatives from the European insurance Market, covering 32 countries and a wide range of business functions. Bev presented a talk entitled – ‘Your CAT doesn’t need to be a Disaster’ – which was very well received.

Conclusion of New Zealand project – Christchurch earthquake claims

At the end of last year, we concluded over 5 years’ involvement in New Zealand, supporting local and international insurers/reinsurers on the 2010/2011 earthquakes which destroyed much of Christchurch and the surrounding areas. Bev FitzGerald visited the Asia Pacific Region, in particular New Zealand itself and Australia, to thank all our various clients for their business and much-appreciated support on this project, probably the largest we have ever undertaken. At the same time, this was an opportunity to thank our team for their tremendous work ‘on the ground’ in NZ.

There are many lessons to be learned from our own and insurers’ experiences in NZ. During this trip, Bev gave a presentation highlighting these lessons to a conference in Kuala Lumpur attended by 30 local insurers.

FCL – Echo Alfa Joint Working Agreement

The specialist insurance claims consulting company, FitzGerald Consulting Ltd (FCL), and Echo Alfa Ltd (EAL), leading operators of drone services, are delighted to announce their joint working agreement for the insurance industry.

Initially, the main focus of the joint working will be on catastrophe (CAT) and individual major loss events. We shall also, however, be looking to support insurers, reinsurers, corporate clients and others in the insurance industry with pre-risk, Underwriting and risk management services.

The arrangement will cover the UK and international locations.

FCL’s Managing Director, Bev FitzGerald commented – ‘My director colleagues and I are very excited to have agreed this joint working arrangement with EAL. Context International – Global Adjusting network

Context International – Global Adjusting network

Towards the end of September, our company joined several associates from the Context International global adjusting network in Europe to host a presentation for a party of insurers, reinsurers and brokers from the London insurance Market. The event took place at the beautiful Watermans’ Hall in the City. The co-founder of Context International, Gerard Bottcher, joined our MD, Bev FitzGerald to talk about the CI network and we were also delighted to have a partner from Clyde & Co give an excellent presentation on the different legal approaches between the UK and Continental European legal systems in relation to insurance.

FitzGerald Consulting Ltd is the sole representative for Context International in the UK and New Zealand.

Ecuador – Earthquake CAT – 2016

Following the initial visit made in June by Bev FitzGerald and an engineering adjuster from our new associate in Mexico, Kimsi & Associates, we are pleased to say that our London-based reinsurer client accepted our recommendations for certain follow-up work. This has now been completed after a further visit to Ecuador by Kimsi & Associates.

Visit to Asia Pacific

During the first two weeks of December this year‎, our MD, Bev FitzGerald, and director colleague, Graeme Shurben, will be visiting the Asia Pacific Region. The main focus of the trip is on New Zealand where we continue to have a team of adjusters based in that country settling claims outstanding following the series of earthquakes that hit Christchurch and the surrounding areas starting in September 2010.

Bev and Graeme will also be calling in to Sydney and Singapore to meet clients and other connections in the Market as part of the development of our new company, FitzGerald Consulting Asia Pacific Ltd.

Ecuador earthquake appointment

FCL appointed to support major worldwide reinsurer – another new client – in reviewing its portfolio of exposures in Ecuador following the 7.8 earthquake in that country on 16 April this year.

Our managing director, Bev FitzGerald, will be travelling to Ecuador accompanied by an engineering-based adjuster from our new joint venture partners in Mexico/Lat-Am, Kimsi & Associates.

Announcement – Sarah Civil

We are delighted to announce that, following her recent departure from Crawford & Co, Sarah Civil will be working with our company.

Sarah has for many years headed up Crawford’s Global Technical Services (GTS) – its worldwide high-end adjusting business – in the UK. Under her leadership it was extremely successful and involved her being responsible for adjusting teams in Property Major Loss, Marine and Transportation, Power, Energy, Construction, Engineering, International Casualty and Aviation, handling losses in the UK as well as on an International basis. She also managed their response to various international catastrophe events and sat on their Global “GTS” Council.
She has an excellent reputation and is very well known throughout the Market.

Within FCL, Sarah will be focusing on business development and on personally providing specialised consultancy services.

FCL’s Managing Director, Bev FitzGerald, added – ‘I am very pleased that Sarah has chosen to work in our business. She brings a wealth of experience and expertise and my director colleagues and I are looking forward to working closely with her. It is an exciting development for our company’.

FCL welcomes new Associates from Mexico

Recently, we were delighted to welcome our new associate in Mexico, Eduardo Kimsi of Kimsi & Associates to London for a week.  We spent the time meeting numerous insurers, reinsurers, brokers and other key participants in the Mexico and wider Latin American insurance Market based in the City.  Our new joint venture was warmly received and it seemed to us that the combination of Kimsi’s local adjusting experience and expertise plus FCL’s international reputation was absolutely in tune with the adjusting service that the Market is seeking.

Our Managing Director, Bev FitzGerald, will be reciprocating Eduardo’s visit by making the same sort of trip to Mexico City and then Miami in May.  Eduardo will then be returning to London again in June – where he will join us at our Summer party on 9 June.

Bev FitzGerald speaks at Claims conference in Singapore

At the beginning of March, our Managing Director, Bev FitzGerald, was pleased to attend and speak at a major Japanese insurer’s Claims conference in Singapore. This was attended by 30 of their Claims Managers/Directors from around the world. Bev focused on ‘Lessons Learned’ from our company’s handling of recent CAT events in Chile and New Zealand, comparing the two and looking at the risks which the NZ CAT presented for insurers on any future CAT. Over the past few months, this issue has been of increasing concern for the insurance Market, especially given that the NZ CAT is still continuing, 5.5 years after the first earthquake there in September 2010. Indeed, Bev has recently met both Pool Re and the Bank of England to talk about specific risks the prolonged NZ CAT presents and how these might materialise on future CATs.

If you would like to discuss with Bev how these risks may impact your own business, please contact him on bev@fitzgeraldconsulting.co.uk
